CR21 Racine & Kenosha

The Southeastern Wisconsin CR21 program currently serves 86 ninth and tenth grade students.

CR21 is the foundation on which its students build their dreams, and it empowers them to take ownership of their futures. Through a continuum of support, CR21 provides Southeastern Wisconsin’s under-served students with the tools and opportunities they will need to flourish. By doing so, CR21 establishes a legacy of academic and personal achievement that will transform the lives of students, their families, and successive generations.

The demographics of current Southeastern Wisconsin CR21 students are as follows.

At the close of College Readiness 21 Southeastern Wisconsin’s second program year, the program comprised 86 students:

  • 45% in eighth grade, 55% in ninth grade;
  • 91% first generation college prospects;
  • 83% low-income;
  • 56% female, 44% male;
  • 52% reside in Kenosha County, 48% in Racine County
  • 50% African American, 31% Latino/Latina, 6% Caucasian, 2% Asian, 1% Native American, 9% of multiple races/ethnicities

CR21 Accomplishments in Racine and Kenosha

  • CR 21 Southeastern Wisconsin is becoming an established program model with strong program staffing.
  • CR 21 has successfully recruited low income and first generation students:  83% are low income; 91% are first generation college prospects.
  • The program has grown; the number of enrolled students more than doubled in the second year.
  • Attendance rates are consistent and strong, averaging about 75% during the second year.
  • Retention between the first and second year, and during the course of the second year, was very high (90%). Information on academic performance was collected from 93% of participating students.
  • Youth give CR 21 high ratings; 97% said they would recommend CR 21 to their friends.
  • Coaches rate the program highly and value interacting with students. They experience both personal and professional growth in their roles.
  • Parents value CR 21; they report that the program is helping their students prepare for post-secondary education, and 100% would recommend it.
